A former Facebook executive recently claimed that the social media service is destroying the fabric of society. The allegation has surely caught the firm's attention, prompting it to admit that Facebook does cause social anxiety but only if it is used in a certain manner.
Facebook recently conducted a scientific assessment in partnership with multiple institutions to study the impact of Facebook usage on users' emotional state, and arrived at the conclusion that "reading about others online might lead to negative social comparison."
The networking giant's official blog post further states that "In general, when people spend a lot of time passively consuming information — reading but not interacting with people — they report feeling worse afterward."
